Cat parade

Black Hole - She & Him

Although we already have spring and cherry blossoms are in full bloom now, I would like to leave a parade here with a cat which I met at the end of winter.

I haven't posted anything here in quite long, but the parade is an episode after I had lunch at the cafe which is I posted last entry. After leaving the cafe, we went to a park to take a walk and photos. The cat which gets used to a camera, has well-groomed hair, followed us all along the way in the park. When we stop and look at the cat, the cat lies on the ground and holds a pose to get me to stroke the cat's belly. It's not recompense for taking its photos, but I petted over its stomach, and started to walk again and stopped and petted and walked and stopped.... Its tummy had an excellent texture and felt so nice.
We walked around the park, and the time came for us to say goodbye. It's a wee bit hard to say goodbye, and I worried whether the cat could go back home safely as well. But we took the plunge and said goodbye and left the place. However, I was worried about the cat. When I turned to look at the cat, the cat was already targeted by a man with a camera, and the cat struck a pose professionally in a flower bed for him. It's kind of sad a bit...

すっかりもう春めいて、桜も満開、お花見日和の今日この頃ですが、冬の終わりに出会った猫との散歩道を、ここに残して行きたいと思います。

前のエントリーから、随分時間がたってしまいましたが、前の日記に書いたカフェで、ランチした後にしたお散歩です。やけにカメラ慣れした、毛並みがとってもやわらかな猫さん。公園をお散歩の道中、ずっと私たちの後をついて来てました。立ち止まって猫の方を見ると、横たわって、お腹をゴロゴロ触って〜、のポーズ。写真を撮らせてもらっている代わり、ではないですが、ゴロゴロゴロゴロお腹をマッサージしては歩き、立ち止まってはゴロゴロゴロ。柔らかくてとっても気持ちがいい。
公園をぐるっと一緒に一周して、そろそろ帰る時間がやってきた。お別れは少しさみしい。猫さんがちゃんと自分の家に帰れるのかも心配（毛並みがとてもきれいなので、おそらく飼い猫）。でも思い切ってバイバイ、って言って歩きだし、でもやっぱり気になって振り返ると、猫さんは、カメラを持った別のお兄さんに、すでにもうターゲットにされておりました。カメラを向けられ、花壇の中でしっかりポーズ。うーん、、それも少しさみしい…。

Devote effort to orangettes

Zebra - Beach House

I had lunch and a photo session yesterday with a friend at Flickr which is a photo site, and I got handmade chocolate-covered orangettes from her. 
She made it with a great deal of time and effort, cut orange peels witch is toxic chemical-free which she got from her acquaintance, boil it and spill the water out and boil it and spill the water and boil it... repeat a few times, and boil it in sugar and let it stand overnight and boil it in sugar again and let it stand overnight... repeat a few times, and then dry up the boiled peels and put chocolate on the dried peels. The orangettes have taste of a sweet grace and I feel happy when I have them. 
I remember what a cooking profession named Harumi Kurihara said on TV before, she likes the word "devoting time and effort", and if you cook with a little bit effort, the dishes would be really good. I think it's really true. Absolutely.
Today, I ate the orangettes left for today, and it's much more delicious than yesterday's one! I want to eat all of them now, but they might be much much more delicious tomorrow..., so I suppose I should leave them for tomorrow. Her orangettes are really tasty and made me fall in love with orangettes, so I'll try to make myself orangettes.

昨日は、フリッカーという写真サイトのフレンドとランチ＆写真撮影会。そのフレンドの方から手作りオランジェチョコ頂きました。
知り合いの方から手に入れた農薬＆ワックス系安全なはっさくの皮を切って、何回も湯でこぼしてお砂糖で煮て、一日寝かしてまたお砂糖で煮て、また一日寝かしてお砂糖で煮て、それを数回繰り返して今度はそれを乾燥させてチョコつけて…、と言う、とてもとても手間ひまかかったおいしいお菓子であります。食べたらとってもあたたかくて幸せな味がしました。
前テレビで料理家の栗原はるみさんが、「手間ひま」って言葉が好きだっておっしゃっていて、ちょっとした手間ひまで本当に料理はおいしくなるんだって。本当にその通りだと思います。
まだ少し残してあったオランジェを今日また食べてみたんだけど、昨日よりさらにおいしくなっているでは！全部食べてしまいたいけど、明日はさらにさらにおいしくなっているかもしれないので、ちょっと残しておこうかな。すっごくおいしくてハマってしまったので、真似して今度は自分でも作ってみようかと思います。

Russia's for me!

Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken - Camera Obscura

I received Belle & Sebastian's canvas tote bag (Scotland's for me!) and Camera Obscura's tote bags and badges I had ordered. Although I already have a T-shirt version of "Scotland's for me!" (I have an embarrassing experience to step in Scotland as I wear the T-shirt, a few years ago), I found tote bag version came in and I got it. I also found Camera Obscura's tote bags were so cute, and then I ordered those bags as well. For now I'm using the peacock's one for a book bag when I go to an English school.

The second and third pictures are ones when I went to Russia last weekend. Well.., she feels like she went to Russia and all, but actually those are the picture when I went to a Russian restaurant in Nagoya.
At the end of last year, I talked about recent news with a friend, about I read "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and it was quite interesting. We talked about how great Russian literatures are. She is also interested in Russia, she likes "Chebrashka" and "Mitten" which are Russian animation. We fell for Russia all out and started to say morbidly that Russian letters are so cute, or darkish scenery in Russia is magnificent, or repressed atmosphere is so cool, or their headscarfs are totally lovely and all. Then why don't we go to Russia in any case?? Therefore we went to Russia.
Well.., we went to a Russian restaurant actually because real Russia is far away from here (not so much far , though. It's just quite huge).
Anyway, that Russian restaurant was so nice. It's just plain delicious. I really recommend that restaurant for good food. If you live around Nagoya, then you should visit there. The restaurant name is Rogovski (I'm not sure the spell in English. Russian spell is completely different from the English spell). I saw some people who came to the restaurant alone. The place looked like a downtown restaurant it's good to have dinner after work casually. That is a nice restaurant I want to recommend friends with confidence.
The third picture is the one taken by my friend, because I didn't take pictures which you can see the atmosphere there (I retouched a problematic part in the photo a little bit).

オーダーしていたベルセバのトートバッグと、カメラ・オブスキュラのトートバッグと缶バッヂが届きましたー。ベルセバの『Scotland's for me!』のTシャツバージョンは持っていたんだけど（数年前、そのTシャツ来てスコットランドへ降り立ったという恥ずかしい経験あり）、新しくトートバッグも入荷されていたので迷わずこちらもゲットいたしました。カメラのトートも超かわゆしで、合わせて３つのトートバッグ。とりあえず今はクジャクのを、習い事のテキスト入れるかばんとして使用しております。

二枚目と三枚目の写真は、先週末ロシアに行った時の写真です。えっと、というか、本人すっかりロシアへ行った気分でありますが、実際はロシア料理を食べに名古屋にあるロシアンレストランへ行ってきた時のものであります。
昨年末に友と食事をしながら、普通に「最近どう？」てな話をしていて、最近ドストエフスキーの『罪と罰』を読んでかなりおもしろかったという話なんかをし、そこからロシア文学ってやっぱいいよね、てなことになり、友もチェブラーシカとかミトンとかのロシアアニメが好きで、ロシアってなんかいいよねって、ロシア熱がますます高まり、ロシアの文字ってなんかかわいいよねとか、ロシアのなんだか薄暗くて抑圧された感じがいいとか、ほっかむりのスカーフがかわいすぎるとか、勝手なことを言い出し始めたので、これはもう、一度ロシアへ行かなければ！ということでロシアへ行ってきたのです。
えー、、っと、本当のロシアはとっても遠いので（そうそう遠くもないが。ただやたら広いけど）、近くのロシアンレストランへ行くことにしたのです。
ここのロシア料理、とにかくとってもおいしかったです。ロゴスキーという名前のお店です。名古屋近郊の方はぜびおためしあれ。ぐるナビ的な情報はここではカットいたしますので こちら でどうぞ。結構一人で食べに来ている方もいたりして、会社帰りにふらっと行ける感じの下町風レストランでございます。友達にこれはぜひ勧めたい！と思えるナイスなレストランでした。
店内の雰囲気がわかる写真を自分は撮っていなかったので、三枚目は友が撮った写真です。（問題がある部分は少し加工させてもらいました。はは。）

Nocturnes

Spanish chocolate and a pen of Lufthansa airline! These are souvenirs I got from a teacher who I work with, when he went back to Spain where his parents live in. I'm fond of airline goods, so I'm very happy to get the pen not for sale. The Lufthansa's logo on the pen is so cool.

In recent days on warm days, I have been reading books or watching the sky on my balcony. I hang blankets on a laundry pole like a shelter as if I was in camp. I want to put up a tent there, to be honest, but neighbors would cast their strange eyes at me(or my family) if there was a tent on the balcony, plus, my family would treat me as a freak more than ever if they saw me enjoying keeping in a tent, so I settle for the blanket shelter. I used to erect a tent in my room and spend time reading books or listening to music in the tent, but now I should refrain from making people around me worry because I'm old enough.

The book in the photo is the latest novel by Kazuo Ishiguro called "Nocturnes", which I have just finished reading. Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Japan, but his family moved to England when he was five, and he has lived there since then, and then he became a British citizen. I remember reading an interview he talked about he's not very good at Japanese.
His writing is very composed and simply beautiful. Strong emotions or inmost thoughts are hidden within his disciplined artistic sentences, and the story revolves in a detached tone. I think his writing style to create substantial world in repressed writing is so ingenious. His sober style without going straight to the heart of a matter reaches people softly.

スペインのチョコレートとルフトハンザ航空のボールペンを頂きましたー。一緒に働いている先生が、両親の住んでいるスペインに帰省した時のおみやげです。エアライングッズに目がない私としては、この非売品グッズはかなりうれしい！ルフトハンザのロゴがイカしてます。

最近、暖かい日はベランダで本を読んだり空を眺めたり。タープのごとく物干竿にブランケットを張って少しキャンプな気分で。本当はテントを張りたいところだけど、ベランダでテントは近所の目てきにとても不審なので、プラス、家族にますます変態扱いされるので、ここはブランケットタープで我慢。昔は部屋の中にテント張って、その中で読書したり音楽聞いたりして過ごしてたけど、私も結構いい歳なので、周りが心配することは極力控えていかなければなりません。

写真に写っているのは、読み終えたばかりのカズオ・イシグロの新作短編集『ノクターンズ』（翻訳版タイトルは『夜想曲集』）。カズオ・イシグロは日本人の名前ながら実はイギリス人であります。彼が５歳の時に両親とともにイギリスに渡りそこで育ち、イギリス国籍を取得しました。日本語はあまり得意ではないと、前どこかのインタビューかなんかで読んだ記憶あり。
彼の書く文章はとても落ち着いていて、とにかく美しい。人がそれぞれに持つ強い思いや感情は、彼の規律ある美しい文章の奥底に隠され、淡々とした語り口で話は進んでいく。抑制された文章の中で、確かな世界を作り上げる彼のスタイルはかなり巧みだと思う。核心にふれずに、思いを伝える冷静な描き方がとても心に響きます。

Father's bird

"Oh..., here they are...", said my father as he looked out the garden from our living room. I wondered who they were, and looked out the garden through a window. I could see them who were birds coming to a nest box in the garden on alert.
By the way, what on earth is an orange object on the nest box?? 
"I put a tangerine on the nest box because I expected that birds came there to eat it.", he said.
When I went outside and looked at the orange object in closeup, I could confirm it was two half tangerines bitten into the roof of the nest box. I mean, two half tangerines secured by nailing. 
Umm..., I can understand his intent of driving the nails on the roof to keep the feed there, but the way he did is kind of wild and so funny. Well, it would be better than a whole tangerine just sticked on the roof. He cut the tangerine at least. 
The bird in the picture is named Mejiro (Zosterops Japonicus). It is characterized by green body and white ring surrounding the eyes.
There are a table and chairs near the nest box, so you could enjoy bird-watching as you have a cup of tea. Though, birds wouldn't come there if you were there.

うちの父が、リビングから庭を眺めながら「あぁ、来た来た」なんて言うもんだから、何が来たのか？と窓から覗いてみると、小さな鳥たちが庭にある巣箱に警戒しながら寄って来ているところではありませんか。
というかでも、巣箱の上にあるオレンジの物体は一体何？？
「鳥さんが来ると思って、みかんを置いといたんだよ」と父は言う。
家から出て巣箱に近寄ってみると、父の言う通り、みかんを半分に切ったものが巣箱の屋根にぶっさしてあった。「ぶっさしてあった」を丁寧に言えば、クギでちゃんと固定されておりましたであります。
うーん、、、エサのみかんが動かないようにという意図はわかるんだけど、父のやり方はなんともワイルドでなんか笑える。まぁ、半分に切らずにそのままのみかんがぶっさしてあるよりはいいんだろうけど。
写真に写っているのはメジロという鳥らしいです。緑のボディと目の周りの白い輪が特徴。
巣箱の横にはテーブルと椅子もあるので、お茶でも飲みながらバードウォッチングもできます。まぁでも、そこに人がいたら、ほぼ鳥たちは寄っては来ないだろうけど。

Goody box - TESCO flavor -

I got a package which was a medium size box by mail today. It was from my friend. The box was crammed with brimful TESCO foods. What a delightful surprise!
I'm keen to collect original products of overseas supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices or anything I can't get here in Japan. Anything local people use on a daily basis is good for me. Although those TESCO goods in the picture are sold in Japan. There is a small TESCO in Toyota city, where takes 1 or 2 hours by car from my place. She visited there and got lots of goods for me because she knows about my rubbishy collection. How sweet she is!
I got tea, biscuits, shortbreads(I love shortbreads!), pasta, a bottle of dressing, miso-soup, three kinds of TESCO's eco-friendly bags, and two DVDs(Cheburashka and Miton, which are Russian animation). Thank you so much!
The first picture is TESCO goods you can get in Japan, but the second one is authentic overseas goods I got as a souvenir last month from her, who visited England a few month ago.

今日、友達からの小包が届き、中を開けてみると、なんとまぁ！テスコ（イギリスの大手スーパーマーケット）商品がいっぱい！テスコ、テスコ、テスコと箱の中にぎっしりと。なんてなんて素敵なんでしょう。
海外のスーパーや、ドラッグストアとか郵便局とかの日本では手に入らないオリジナルグッズなんかを集めるのが好きなんで、これは本当にうれしいお楽しみBOX。金のエンゼルマーク出したって、こんなお楽しみBOXもらえやしない。高価なものじゃなくて、こういう海外で地元の人らが普段普通に使っているようなものがいいんです。でも今回、このテスコグッズは日本で売っていたものなんだけどね。小さなテスコが豊田市にあるので、友達がそこへ行った時に、スーパーマーケットグッズに目がない私の為に、いろいろ買ってきてくれたのです。しかもシークレットで。だから今日、届いた小包開けてテスコづくしにびっくり。なんて素晴らしい友なんだろう。ほんと彼女のこういうサプライズやアイデア、感性なんかとても素敵だと思います。
箱の中身は、ビスケットとショートブレッド、パスタにドレッシ ングにカップの味噌汁に、そしてテスコのオリジナルのエコバックが３種類も！そして後はロシアのアニメDVD、チェブラーシカとミトン。ありがとう！
ちなみに、一枚目の写真は日本で手に入るテスコグッズだけど、二枚目のは正真正銘海外で手に入れられたグッズであります。友達が数ヶ月前にイギリスに旅行した時のお土産として先月もらったものです。一応。。。

Taking on the holidays

Before I know it, the holiday's over. My school starts tomorrow and I have to give my students their grade reports tomorrow. I had to hand the reports to them before this holidays. I was going to give them at the christmas party before the holidays, but when I noticed there were still the reports I should have handed out on my desk, most students had left. I handed the reports to only the students that were still left. So I need to give the reports to some students tomorrow even though the reports says "Please review what was learned and study hard during your holidays."

My holidays was quite busy, but I had a good time. I saw one of my friends on the holidays. Now, she is taking pictures on the theme of her precious one and asked me to take my portrait. I willingly nodded my head yes! I like her pictures so much. It's so fantastic, so brilliant. I'm honored to be able to take part in her great works.
After the shooting, we went to our favorite cafe as usual and had a potato & basil gratin, which was unbelievably delicious. Everything the cafe has is so good, though.

So..., I've got to get ready for tomorrow's classes.

あっという間に休みも終わってしまいました。明日からまた仕事です。明日は生徒たちに成績表を渡さないといけないんだけど、これって実は、休み前に渡さないといけなかったものだったりで。休み前のクリスマスパーティの時に渡すつもりでいたんだけど、パーティ終わって一息ついた時、ふと机の上なんぞを見てみると、なんとみんなの成績表がまだ残っている！渡してなぁっいっ！生徒はもうほとんど帰っているし。しょうがないから、その場にいた子らには慌てて渡したんだけど、その時に渡せなかった子らには明日渡さないといけない。その成績表のコメントには「冬休み中もしっかりと復習して勉強しておきましょう」なんて書いてあるんだけど。

お休み中はいろいろ忙しかったりしたけど、なかなかいい時間を過ごしてました。友達に会って、その彼女は「大切な人」っていうテーマで今写真を撮っているので、私も撮ってもらったりしました。彼女の写真はすごく素敵で大好きなので、私も彼女の作品に参加できるっていうのがとてもうれしかったりします。
それからその撮影の後は、うちらお気に入りのいつも必ず行くカフェへ行って、ポテトとバジルのグラタンを食べたのだけど、それがもう信じられないくらいおいしくって参ってしまいました。そこのカフェにあるのは、ホントどれを取ってもすっごくおいしいんだけれど。

そんなわけで、明日の授業の用意しないとな…。

As the year rolls to an end, I'll conclude the year here with some photos I took in late 2009. However, I have not taken so many photos these days, there are only a few photos to post here, though.

I remain a reader who reads books at cafes. The book on the table in the photo is "1984" by George Orwell. That version of the book is a kind of an English textbook(Penguin Readers) for non-English-speaking-countries, so the book is written simply and shorter than the original one, I think. And there are quizzes at the end of the book, for instance, "When Winston(a main character) saw Big Brother on the telescreen" or "Imagine that you are a Party spy. Write a report on the activities of Winston and Julia in Chapters 5 and 6" or something like that.

And the other photos are from Halloween party and Christmas party of an English school I teach to children. At the christmas party, we played make-a-face game. Kids were shouting at a blindfold friend in English, "Left! More! No! Right! Right!" to be drawn eyes, nose, mouth on the exact position.
I muddled through the party but I was just exhausted. I don't have the physical strength to keep up with hyperactive kids. It was a lot of fun, though.
Recently, I started to teach English to Junior high school students as well. What well-grown-up children they are! They don't say each different subjects to me in chorus, and they can keep sitting on their seats properly. I don't need to run around in their lessons for catching naughty kids. They are pretty mature. Teaching them is so delightful.

Next year, I'd like to take photos a lot more, and post them here more often.

今年ももう、残すところ僅かになってしまいました。今年後半に撮った写真と共に、ここで今年を締めくくりたいと思います。とは言っても、最近あんまり写真撮ったりとかしていないので、そんなに載せる写真なんてないんだけど。

相変わらずカフェ行って、本読んだりの日々送ってます。写真に写っている本は、ジョージ・オーウェルの「１９８４」。これは、英語圏でない人の為に書かれた、テキストブックみたいな本（Penguin Readers）。オリジナルの話よりも簡単に、より短く書かれていると思う。本の最後には、この小説の内容に関する問題なんかも付いていたりして。例えば、「主人公のウィンストンは、いつスクリーンでビッグブラザーを見ましたか答えなさい」とか、「あなたがその党のスパイだとして、どのようにウィンストンとジュリアのことをレポートに書きますか？第５章と６章を読んで答えなさい」とか、そんな感じの。

あと、他の写真は、英語を教えているスクールのハロウィンパーティとクリスマスパーティのもの。この間あったクリスマスパーティでは、福笑いみたいなゲームしたりして楽しんでました。目隠しした子にクレヨン持たせて、紙の上にサンタクロースの顔を描いてもらうんだけど、目隠ししてない子らは「左！もっと左！違う！右だよっ！」とか言うのをちゃんと英語を使って、目を描く位置とかを教えてあげたりして。
何とかパーティはやり遂げたけど、もうね、なんだか疲れ果ててしまった感じで。テンション高すぎる子どもらに、ついていく体力なんぞありゃしません。でもまぁ、楽しかったんだけどね。
最近、中学生にも英語を教えて始めたりなんかしちゃってるのですが、彼らはなんてよく出来た子どもなんだろう！なんて思ったりしてしまう。彼らは一斉に、おのおの違うことを勝手にしゃべり出さないし、ちゃんと大人しく椅子に座っていてくれるし。授業中に悪ガキどもを追いかけ回す必要もなし。彼らはなんて大人なんだろう。彼らとの授業はとっても快適。

来年は、もっと写真を撮って、ここにもいろいろ載せて行きたいな、と思います。

Wander into autumn

The temperature I felt at a highland, located 2000 meters, about one month ago at the end of summer, is descending to my place. Now is the season when autumn begins to deepen here. At the top of the mountain I visited this summer, there were horses browsing silently, and the scenery wrapped in a thin fog looked like a dream I sucked into. There was something mystical behind it. I can smell the fresh air in the dream. I don't need to hold my breath there not to awake from my reverie. That's named Utsukusigahara, where is in Nagano prefecture, lead to the dream land. What is ahead there in the cold obscured sky? How does the horses shine when the fog clears and the sunshine comes. While I've been thinking of that, this autumn has started. A fog dragging dreams is floating on this place, where beginning and ending meet.

約１ヶ月前の夏の終わりに、標高2000mの高原で感じた気温が、今やっと自分の住む場所へと降りてきた。すっかりこちらも秋で。夏に訪れたその山の頂上には、静かに草を食べる馬たちがいて、白く薄い霧で覆われるその風景は、迷い込んだ夢の中のよう。神秘的な世界が広がっている。そこは新鮮な空気が思い存分吸える夢の中。夢が覚めないようにと息を潜める必要もない。こちらは長野県にある美ヶ原高原、夢の世界へとつながる場所。ひんやりと薄曇るその先には何があるのだろう。霧が晴れて光が射す時に、あの馬たちはどのように輝くのだろう。そんなことを思いながら今、秋が始まっていく。終わりと始まりが交わるこの場所にも、夢を引きずる霧のようなもやが漂っている。

I've been a wee bit busy lately. I've recently started a new job. I've been too physically and mentally busy with my work to read books or listen to music or something like that. But now I can get around to write here!
I started teaching English to children as my job. Is it alright if I teach English?? I wonder if I can do that with my poor English. At any events, I'd like to hang in there as I learn with children.
Nowadays, children are learning phonics accurately which came along after my time, so I need to study all about the phonics from scratch. For the moment, my present problem is I can't pronounce well the difference between "a" and "u", because of that, my kids can't distinguish the words. I consulted native English teachers and other Japanese teacher about that, and a teacher said "You should lean your head back and look up when you pronounce "u". In doing so, children can distinguish "u" from "a" by looking at your action." Umm..., is that good enough?? Hmm...., something like this kind of struggle will continue next time too...

最近ちょっと忙しくしてました。新しい仕事を始めて精神的にも体力的にも、本を読んだり音楽聴いたりする余裕がなかったんだけど、この頃やっと少し余裕がでてきたので、久しぶりにコレ書いてます。
子どもに英語を教える仕事を始めました。私なんかが英語教えちゃっていいのかしら？なんて思うんだけど、一緒に学んで行く感じでがんばっています。
今の子らは、私の時代にはなかったフォニックスなんかをキチっと学んでいるので、私も一から勉強しないといけない。とりあえず今の悩みは "a" と "u" の発音の違いをうまくできないので、生徒らがうまくそれを聞き取れず、区別できないというところ。ネイティブ講師に相談したり、他の先生に相談すると、「"u" の時は上を向いて "アッ" って言うと、生徒がその動作を見て区別できるよ。」って。うーん。それでいいのか？？そんな感じのとまどい奮闘日記、次回へとつづいたりつづなかなったり。
